The best first automation is not the most impressive one. It is the task you do often, that has a clear finish line, and that you secretly dread. Here are five good candidates.
1. Sorting your inbox
An agent can label newsletters, invoices and support requests, and draft replies for the routine ones. You only read what actually needs you.
2. The weekly report
If you copy numbers from three dashboards into a document every Monday, that is a perfect agent job: fetch, summarise, send.
3. Website health checks
Check that the site is up, the SSL certificate is valid, plugins are current and last night’s backup exists. Alert a human only when something is off.
4. Meeting notes to action items
Turn a transcript into a short list of decisions and owners, then drop them into your task tracker.
5. Research round-ups
Ask an agent to compare three tools or summarise this week’s news on a topic, with links, so you start from a brief instead of a blank page.
Rule of thumb: automate it if you do it weekly, it takes more than ten minutes, and you could explain it to a new colleague in one paragraph.
